Sun 30th Oct: Two Puddings down

My Sundays are always the same in the sense that I know I will be at Whiskers’n'Paws in the afternoon with about fifteen hopefuls, but what I never know is how many will be coming back home with me again at the end of the three-hour adoption session.  Happily today I left with three less than I arrived with, not as satisfying as my record of nine adoptions (which has happened twice I think), but a lot better than none.

Today two of the Pudding Litter were chosen, and Lewis the terrier cross was taken home to see if he would be OK with the resident cat.  Lewis has been living in the Home for Small Delinquents on Lamma since being brought over from Ap Lei Chau to give him more space, so he’s proven himself with little dogs and, of course, there’s Whiskers, the cat who moved herself in a couple of years ago.  She stays up on the porch roof with her dog friend, Samantha, but I think the other dogs know she’s there and don’t seem bothered so I’m hoping Lewis will be staying.

Lucky Snickers

At Tai Po it was sweet Snickers who left for her new home, a lucky girl to be chosen out of so many waiting.  At least I can console myself that the dogs at HKDR have a safe home and a good life compared with many that either have nothing, or homes where they are caged, left on rooftops or balconies, beaten or starved, all of which are unfortunately too common.  Some of the horror stories I hear are just terrible, and the condition of some dogs that come to us from whichever source tell their own story.

Dot is a happy and loving girl

I don’t think Dot was ever physically abused as she’s a sweet and trusting dog, but she came to us from AFCD with a single puppy (Maggie, now adopted).  Dot is eleven years old and who knows how many litters she’s had before, but this one was her last as she has now been desexed.  Maggie was a black mongrel, very cute but certainly not a springer spaniel like her mother, and I assume it was this unwanted pregnancy that resulted in Dot being thrown out.  She’s now on Lamma and is such an easy dog, as well as being very pretty, so will someone please give her a home?  There’s a lot of life still to be lived and Dot deserves to have love and comfort in her remaining years.
