Fri 11th Nov: Hairless husky Soya

It was a happy day for our sweet Anna today when her foster signed the adoption paperwork, and in doing so changed Anna’s status from Homeless to Homed. Rolex too went from “On Trial” to “Adoption Confirmed” after he proved himself to be a wonderful and easy boy, friends with both the resident dog and the cat. Nothing beats an adoption, and the more there are, the happier we are too.
I took three more baby puppies for fostering today, as well as Brady, the skinny ‘labrador’ with the shaved body. He was so sweet on the sampan, wanting to check out and lick the pups, and he just loves people.
Brady got his place instead of a husky girl (I) called Soya. I had seen her at AFCD after she was picked up as a stray in Shek O, her whole body bald and scabby except for a few tufts here and there although her head, tail and feet are unaffected. Although I couldn’t officially get Soya released for re-homing because she is microchipped, I did ask that I be allowed to take her for medical treatment (having first established that no treatment would be given at AFCD). After I got Soya from her kennel and had she had bounced her freedom dance, she squatted to pee and it was very red, another reason for me to be very happy that she would be seeing a vet. The long and short of it is that Soya has either got a bad case of ringworm, or scabies, or both and maybe more, and she has a very severe bladder and painful ear infection. The foster who ended up taking Brady instead couldn’t take Soya because there is another dog in the home, and I can’t bring her back to Lamma for the same reason (she may infect other dogs). So now I am faced with doing something I have never done before and that is to take Soya back to AFCD, with her medications, and hope that I can rely on the staff to give them as directed. They will be willing I’m sure, as they have a nice crew at Pokfulam, but it’s still not an ideal situation for the poor dog. If anyone would be willing to foster an incredibly sweet, small-sized husky girl for a while, please let me know, or as always email Maria at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com
