Sun 19th Feb: Meeting ancestors

February 20th, 2012 | Uncategorized | 0 Comments

Judy, Skip, Rio, Diva, Lizzie, Kimba and Ammo found homes today.  Add Julia, Dime, Didi and Perry from yesterday and that makes for a great weekend.  Puppy Seal came to Whiskers’n'Paws to play even though his back legs are still not fully back to normal, and it was lovely to see him having fun with the others.  Of course I was hoping he’d find a home, especially as his fosters can’t keep him for much longer, but today wasn’t his day.  Hopefully the story in Monday’s SCMP will create some interest, but anyway he’s a happy boy.

I can’t remember how many generations of Whippeties have come through HKDR over the years, although there have been a lot that’s for sure.  Every time I see yet another litter at AFCD there’s no mistaking their distinctive look, which includes a bunch of extra toes on the back legs (which are removed at the time of desexing).  When the previous pups were at Whiskers’n'Paws we met a German pointer puppy there and it was very obvious that the Whippeties have more of that breed in them than whippets, and he was there again today.  Look at the colouring of sisters Opal and Lima and their German pointer friend…….

It was quite strange going to bed without Diva, although sister Sophie was still there to take her place.  Diva was the one who snuggled up to me every night, even sliding down under the covers and (annoyingly) licking my legs during the night.  The sleeping arrangement of the “bed dogs” had to be re-figured (by them, as I’m not involved in any of their inter-canine discussions), and it was Chungy, a rank outsider until now, who moved into prime position, with Sparkle getting the end of the bed and Sophie somewhere in the middle (although she tried draping herself on top of me to start off with).  I did tell the adopters that Diva would want to (insist on) sharing a bed, and that didn’t seem to bother anyone, always a good sign.  It’s rubbish to think that dogs that are allowed on the bed turn into some sort of dominant monsters, as Diva very clearly demonstrated.  She and Sophie are the sweetest of characters and really love everyone.

Sophie will miss her sister but she has a lot of friends to make up for it
