Fri 30th March: Facebook changes us to Timeline format

It’s a tough decision whether or not to give my (Lamma) dogs rawhide chews or bones as a treat.  The upside is it gives them something else to occupy their time and teeth rather than my furniture, every piece of which is slowly being eaten away (other than the metal pieces) and that’s obviously a good thing.  The downside is that they argue, and there’s a few who gather all of the chews to stash in a pile, or Sandy who doesn’t really do much except guard her prize and warn all the others to stay away using a high-pitched voice.  It’s amusing for a while, but trying to get to sleep while Sandy has her over-sized treasure right next to my head is a bit much.  Even trying to take it away from her to hide only results in her scratching at my head to beg me to return it.  Hard choice: yowling in my ear or having my scalp pawed with sharp claws.  Dogs are such funny individuals, and they all have their own idiosyncrasies which are not taught or learned but are just part of their own personality.  (I’m writing this now as I did give out some chews last night and paid the price).

Today is the day when all of Facebook converts to Timeline format, and that includes our own HKDR page.  I can’t say that I understand much of what this entails but Silvena has been busy preparing for the switch.  I know there are some things that we now won’t be able to do and others that will be improved, but if there are any running-in problems please bear with us.  I suspect I’m going to be months behind in my own personal page but I can live with that.

We have an urgent need for puppy foster at the moment, not the best time to be looking I know as so many people are out of town for Easter, but there are two babies and three slightly older puppies currently in hospital with parvovirus.  The younger pair have recovered but I can’t bring them back to Lamma while I have other youngsters that haven’t been fully vaccinated.  The other three are those that I got from AFCD on Thursday so perhaps I’m being premature in asking for fosters, but I’m assuming they’ll survive and then we’ll be stuck for temporary homes.  Maybe there’s someone reading this that will be home for the holidays and can look after two very easy puppies?  They don’t take up too much time at this age because all they need is food, water and their newspaper (toilet) changing.  Of course being cuddled is an optional extra which they’d appreciate.

The single puppy I brought back to Lamma while the other three stayed in hospital is doing well, and there’s absolutely no doubt that he’s the brother of little Scout.  In fact they are identical and I can’t even tell them apart myself.  I had to take Scout for his second vaccination today and it was only the microchip that convinced me that I had the right puppy.  It was pure chance that the brothers were reunited, and lucky for both of them that they ended up with me.  How different their stories could have been, particularly the new one, Ketchup.  I’ve been told that the man who keeps all of the dogs in Mui Wo (where these two pups came from) sells the puppies for a few dollars and Ketchup must have been one of those.  I was told he was picked up on a construction site but I’ll never know what happened to him during the three weeks that Scout has already spent with me.   I suspect he’s been around people because he has already settled in and is as happy to see me as his peers are (Shona, Sticky and brother Scout).  All four of them will be at my last Saturday at Pacific Pets in Stanley, 2pm to 5pm, if you want to drop by and say hello.
