Sun 27th May: What a day!

May 28th, 2012 | Uncategorized | 0 Comments

I’m going to keep my words short – and very sweet – today because the adoption photographs speak for themselves and for how we all feel: happy!

Jester was the first one to go

Although I was at Whiskers’n'Paws talking to potential adopters and seeing puppies come (from foster homes) and go, I was also busy receiving and sending message to Iris at our own Homing Centre as she was rushed off her feet the entire day.  The result was worth it as so many little dogs left for their new homes, with others due to be picked up later in the week.

Lily goes home

This lucky couple beat a lot of others who wanted Gorby

After the dust had settled and I was able to work out exactly who had actually been adopted, here is the list of names: Gorby (the new corgi, an in-and-out dog), Burger the pug (who had come to us with a seriously bad case of patella luxation (slipping kneecap)) who went to the same home as Sasa the (fat) beagle.  Jellybean (yay!) the lovely dachshund whose problem was more behavioural than physical, and a second dachshund, Coffee (although this was on a trial basis to confirm she and the resident dachsie got along).  Jester the Maltese, another short stay boy, and Bobo the Yorkie.  Lily the schnauzer was another one, with a strong possibility of Fritzie joining her later.  Gatsby the very cute shih tzu will be picked up in a couple of days.

Whitney will be happy to know her puppy Scruffy has a home

Actually, Gatsby had the choice of two homes but without chopping him in half that obviously wasn’t possible, so one of Whitney’s puppies (Scruffy) went home from Whiskers’n'Paws instead.  Whitney is one of the mothers-with-pups I got from AFCD, and her babies have been so well taken care of by their foster family.  There was a second foster litter there today for the first time too (belonging to Constance), so there was a big choice.  Four puppies from this group have now found homes, two staying with the foster so there isn’t an adoption photo, and two taken today.  A sixth puppy, Poncho, will be picked up on Monday.  The third Mother-with-pups group (Katie at Tai Po) have yet to make their debut, and it’s getting worryingly close to the summer adoption downturn so I just hope we will find homes for all.  It’s very tough though, and if a puppy like Panda is still with me then that say it all.  That little guy is a heart-melter (my heart anyway).

Two of Constance's litter left from Whiskers'n'Paws while another pair will stay with their foster family

Are we nearly there? Bea and Sophie can't wait for playtime

As the puppies on Lamma were being packed into their crates for the trip to Horizon Plaza, they had an interested audience watching from the stairs.  It was so funny I had to take a photo.  There’s smiling Safari and Margaret on her usual perch on top of the fridge, her head touching the ceiling and flattening her big ears.  You can just about see (black) Jeremy’s head resting on the fridge behind her, and Sparkle’s legs at the top of the stairs.

An interested audience

Some of the doglets are too big to travel in crates so they now make the trip on leashes.  Bea can’t resist standing on top of the crates and Sophie was also looking forward to the playtime she knew was coming.

Tammy is a recent arrival from AFCD

I almost missed Tammy’s adoption at Tai Po.  She’s a newcomer from AFCD and a lovely sweet girl – and a lucky one.
